Charles Wesley Cooper III, one half of electronica duo Telefon Tel Aviv, was found dead on January 22. Cooper was 31.
Cooper’s bandmate, Joshua Eustis, posted a note on the band’s MySpace page announcing the news. Details are currently unknown. CBS Chicago has reported that Cooper was last seen around midnight on January, 21 around Chicago’s Wicker Park area following a fight with his girlfriend. Cooper does have a history of suicide threats, but at this time the cause of death is still unknown.
Telefon Tel Aviv had just released its third studio album, Immolate Yourself, on January 20 through Bpitch Control.

This is personally one of my favorite early tracks and at first glance not much going on. Quite frankly there are much more “usable” remixes out there. However, Upon a closer listen, the intensity of this super-percussive track is mind blowing. I don’t know what I was thinking, to be honest. You need a crowd willing to go deep and hard, get nasty and wait through a super-breakdown, but it doesn’t get much harder than this. Clean, simple but scary in the weight of the build-up and the depth of the groove here.

‘Fan Death are the protégés of glam-trash DJ Erol Alkan. They are adored by superstar tastemaker Diplo. They are the subjects of blog hysteria. Great songs that happened to be electronic, not soulless, repetitious club music that seems to dominate these days.” Meanwhile, that graceful figure sashaying across the dancefloor gazing forlornly at his reflection in the mirrorball is John Travolta as Tony Manero.’
Classical/disco lines with modern indie-electro and even a little wobble bass thrown in there. This should be in every electronic Dj’s arsenal and is a refreshing break from the nonstop influx of in your-face rocker techno.
SSSSSsssssssSSSoooooooooo this Dj that used that used to be named ‘etan’ and I realized that me nob and some others chilled with this dood(and toby who booked him or something) at Le Royale in NYC after his set and got a little slopping Due to legal reasons, Etan has had to change his name to Shuttle. To commemorate this turn of events, he’s put together a pretty eclectic mix including a few of his own tracks and remixes. I’ve been listening/ipodfacialing this mix for a few now, having no idea who it was or where i got it from cause of the name change, etc. Well finally looked em up. This mix is a pretty good banger and a great example for electro Breakbeat, Drum n Bass, Ambient and some indie even mixed in. shuttle has definitely got skills.
